Hats off to Barack Obama for his on target handling of responsibility for torture abuses in the Bush II regime - at the upper and lower ranks. Not scapegoating the lower ranking military staff who engaged in 'shock' torture tactics under orders that apparently stem from the Office of Dick Cheney is smart, holding those upper echelon folks is important.

That said, we should be very careful to watch that the lawyers involved in these practices are also held accountable and, to be safe over the long term, those lower ranking invdividuals as they progress in their careers and lives.
Abuse from the law, or those taught by same, is never acceptable and vigilance against that is very much a part of the defense of liberty.
